Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Program at the Cowpens Fire Department consists of visits to schools, churches, and other civic organizations. The fire department provides protection for three schools and a number of churches in which they conduct these prevention programs. Below are some tips that apply to Fire Prevention.

Ensure that you have working smoke detectors and the batteries are maintained. We recommend you change your batteries when you change your clocks twice a year.

Teach your children to dial 911 in case of an emergency. Remind them it is a tool in times of need and not something to be taken lightly.

It is a good idea to have a working fire extinguisher in your home, automobile, boat, and/or RV. Use them wisely and never place yourself or others in harms way. Please leave large fires or fires you are unsure of to us.

When you see a fire engine, police car, or ambulance approaching, law states you must yield to the right hand side of the roadway. This will provide safe passage for both the emergency vehicle and yourself.
